Work-Based Learning

The Elbert County Comprehensive High School Work Based Learning Program is an educational opportunity that prepares high school students for the world of work through a combination of related coursework, career counseling, and structured workplace learning. The program involves employers directly in the high school, including assessing student performance, creating relevant curriculum, and developing occupational skill standards specific to business and industry.

There are four levels of participation in the Work Based Learning Program: Internship, Employability Skills Development, Co-operative Education, and Apprenticeship. Each level provides specific requirements that meet individual job site and student needs. Students have opportunities for unpaid and paid positions.

Students are able to participate in this program in the 10th through 12 grade years. All students are required to take a related CTAE course and are encouraged to complete a career pathway while gaining valuable work place skills and on the job training. Students receive elective credit while being released during the school day to work at the job site.

Athens Technical College

ECCHS currently has a partnership with our local Athens Technical College to offer students the opportunity to earn technical college credit and high school elective credit while in the 11th and 12th grades during the school day. Students in the program are allowed to go to the ATC campus to participate in the program. The diploma program areas in place that Elbert County students can participate in are Patient Care Assisting (Health Occupations), Hair Shampoo Technician (Cosmetology),  Industrial Maintenance, and Diesel Mechanics.

To participate in the Dual Enrollment program, students must meet admission requirements for Athens Technical College which include a 2.0 GPA, successful completion of the COMPASS test, and completion of the application packet.
