Fun Field Day


The twelfth annual Elbert County Schools Fun Field Day on Friday, May 1st was an awesome day for a lot of extra special people.  EC Schools Friends Helping Friends Club (FHF) Sponsor Chrystal Thomas did an outstanding job coordinating the big event for all five EC schools and young adults from Advantage.  ECCHS & ECMS FHF members assisted students throughout the day as JROTC cadets ran each station.  Pam Brown coordinated Special Olympics which began with an opening ceremony including ECCHS alumni Olympians carrying the torch onto the field.  Jeff Adams ran the track & field events assisted by ECCHS alumni Clint Brown and FHF Founding Officer Abby Jordan.  All Olympians were presented ribbons and medals.   Students of all ages enjoyed Inflatable Bounce Houses set up by Phillip Edwards, a special US Air force station manned by Nick Palmer, music, dance, crafts including flowers from Nancy Wolfe at Petal Pusher Florist and potting soil donated by Kevin Starrett at Southern Farm for the planting station, funnel cakes, snow cones, pop corn, cookout, and fun, non-competitive games at McWilliams Park.  Everyone was a WINNER!  Elbert County Emergency Services provided ambulances and EMT's on site;  Kathy Poss and Connie Andrews served as nurses;  Darren Driver & Wyche Fire House provided a fire truck station.  The City of Elberton Fire Dept. brought firemen hats for students and their huge ladder truck which sprayed water across the field for students to enjoy.  CSX provided shirts for all students with special needs, teachers, Parapros and station volunteers. 


Robbie King brought his grill wagon and cooked 500 Bubba Burgers & hot dogs!!  Seth Martin at Ingles provided buns; Jeff & Sandy Adams, Cherish & Lance Ingram, Ineata King, Tina Sizemore & Timmy Thomas volunteered assistance throughout the day; Lisa Almond, Connie Andrews, Misti Bailey, Bruce Brown and Greg Hall drove buses; Greg & Kelly Hall also helped set up the equipment;  Renee Hunt delivered food supplies; Rhonda Driver provided drinks and assistance; ECMS PE teacher Stacy Drake shared fun game equipment;  Jodi Mewborne served as photographer; ECCHS JROTC  shared their snow cone machine.  The facilities and Elbert Co Parks & Recreation staff at McWilliams Park provided wonderful wheelchair assessable shelter and accommodations as needed throughout the day.  EC Schools Fun Field Day is on the first Friday in May each year.  Mark your calendar to attend an extra special day on Friday, May 6, 2016!
